MEETING PLANNERS WELCOMED IN GRAND STYLE – The National Coalition of Black Meeting Planners held its annual conference in Daytona Beach Dec. 2 - 6. More than 300 attendees participated in the event hosted by the Daytona Beach Hilton Oceanfront Resort. The Daytona Beach Area Convention and Visitors Bureau assisted in planning receptions and excursions for attendees to showcase the destination. The five-day conference was highlighted with accommodations, meals and meetings at the Hilton; receptions sponsored by the Plaza Resort & Spa and the Historically Black College & Universities Hospitality Management Consortium at Bethune-Cookman University; community outreach programs at the Florida Tennis Center; and an expo and breakfast at the Ocean Center. Congratulations to all who put on the Ritz for these visitors!

BROWNS LOAN ART FOR SIX-MONTH DISPLAY AT MOAS – Daytona Beach Museum of Arts & Sciences has debuted the largest known collection of Florida Art. “Reflections: Paintings of Florida 1865-1965,” from the collection of Cici and Hyatt Brown, will be on display through May 17. From idyllic beach scenes to lush green jungles, “Reflections” includes 69 paintings depicting the natural beauty of the state before the post-World War II building boom.

VOTRAN OFFERS NEW YEAR’S EVE TROLLEY SERVICE – Votran’s New Year’s Eve trolley service will ring in the New Year by offering partygoers safe travel all night along S.R. A1A on New Year’s Eve. The unlimited service runs from 7 p.m. Dec. 31. Cost is $3 for the night. Trolleys, which are in addition to regular night service, will run every 20 minutes. The trolleys will serve the Main Street Daytona Beach New Year’s celebration and many other destinations on the S.R. A1A strip, and will travel S.R. A1A between Granada and Beachcomber avenues. Connections also can be made between regular night service routes. The service is open to the public, including existing pass holders, bus riders and people who pay standard cash fares, and is made possible through partnership with Hotel and Lodging Association of Volusia County and the Daytona Beach Area Convention and Visitors Bureau. SHOPPES GET INTO THE SPIRIT – In addition to its unique holiday shopping opportunities, Ocean Walk Shoppes in Ocean Walk Village has numerous holiday events on the calendar, including frequent periodic performances by the Metropolitan Opera Live from New York and sand sculpting through Jan. 2. Inside the Ocean Walk Shoppes’ Movies 10 Theatre and in addition to seeing the performances, patrons also can enjoy the Opera and a pre-show reception with wine tasting beginning at noon. Upcoming shows include Les Contes D'Hoffmann (Dec.19); Der Rosenkavalier (Jan. 9) and Carmen (Jan. 16) and begin at 1 p.m. Admission is $22 for adults, $20 for seniors, and $15 for children 15 and under. OCEAN CENTER PLANNING AND DESIGN WINS AWARD – At its annual Awards Selection Committee meeting in late November, the Florida Planning & Zoning Association, Surf Coast Chapter, selected the Ocean Center in the category of "Outstanding Development.” Congratulations to Volusia County’s Growth and Research Management Department and all the partners involved in the Ocean Center planning and construction.
