The Hulk
Like most
kids growing up I read the Hulk comics and watched the cartoon
series and when it was made into a TV series, I watched that as well.
So when Universal
Studios announced they were making a "Hulk" movie I was
very excited. First thing I wondered was if Lou Ferrigno (the Hulk in
the TV
series) would play the "Hulk" in the movie version. When I found
out the Hulk was
going to be a CGI like most people I was very curious to see how realistic
it
would be.
Well, after
seeing the movie I am pleased to say it works very well. The Hulk
was very realistic looking and the action scenes were breath taking
especially when the Hulk battled some Mutant dogs sent to attack Betty
Ross. In another scene that was very touching the military is trying to
destroy the Hulk and
Betty tells her father, "attacking him will only fuel his anger and
make him
bigger let me go to him" General Ross very reluctantly lets her and
the Hulk is
about to destroy their helicopter until he sees Betty and he just stops.
As
the military approaches him but not attacking him the Hulk just watches
them and
When Betty goes to him and he sees her he has this look of compassion
and
morphs back into Bruce Banner. The scene was so well done it showed how
the Hulk
is not the monster that many thought he was.
The movie
starts off with a young David Banner working in a government lab
and is trying to persuade the government to allow him to use humans in
his
experiments. When rebuffed by a young General Ross he takes things into
his own
hands and injects himself with the drug he is working on and when his
wife
becomes pregnant he passes along the abnormality to his young son Bruce.
While the young Bruce never turns into the Hulk when he gets mad he gets
some Green spots but that's as close as he comes to turning into the Hulk
as a young child.
Now grown
up Bruce works in a lab just like his father did and when he is
given an accidental does of gamma radiation that starts of the chain of
event
that turns him into the Hulk. In one scene while he is in the Hospital
he tells a
worried Betty Ross, " I never felt better. Remember my bad knee?
Well, now
its my good knee."
It takes
the Hulk about 45 minutes to appear but once he does the movie
really takes off. Several times director Ang Lee spilt the screen into
several
smaller screens to give the movie the feel of a cartoon which after all
is what
the Hulk really is. In one screen you would see what the hulk is going
in
another screen see what General Ross was doing and in other screens you
would see
what the military was doing to try and stop him. This really added another
element to the film that I really enjoyed. Another highlight of the film
was a
cameo by Stan Lee (CO-creator of the Hulk) and Lou Ferrigno (the TV Hulk)
as
security guards.
The acting
is first rate Eric Bana did a great job as Bruce Banner playing
him as sympathetic likable person. Jennifer Connelly was excellent as
Betty Ross
and played a very convincing scientist. Nick Nolte was superb as David
Banner
and Sam Ross was outstanding as a crusty General Ross.
If you haven't
seen a movie at Loews Universal Cineplex located at City Walk
in Orlando I highly recommend it. There are several video games the kids
can
play and the Cineplex has 20 theater's assuring you of being able to see
the
movie you want to see. There are plenty of concession stands and the workers
get
your food in a timely manner so you won't miss any of the movie. There
are
plenty of ushers to show you to your theater. The Cineplex is spilt into
two
levels and you can get to the upper level via escalator. The theater's
are big
and have great sound systems and the seats are huge and rock back and
worth and
all have beverage holders. Unlike some theater's you don't have to worry
about
some tall dude who won't take his hat off blocking your view. The rows
are so
far back that even Shaq could sit in front of you and wear 3 hats and
not
block your view.
