2003 JUNO Awards Telecast

Musical Stars Join Host Shania Twain as the First Announced Performers for the 32nd Annual JUNO Awards
To be Broadcast by CTV on Sunday, April 6


TORONTO, February 12, 2003 - The Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (CARAS) along with CTV announced today that Avril Lavigne, Our Lady Peace, Sam Roberts, Remy Shand and Swollen Members will perform on the 2003 JUNO Awards Telecast from the Corel Centre in Ottawa- Gatineau on Sunday, April 6 at 8 p.m. (ET). They join Shania Twain, who in addition to hosting, is also scheduled to perform. Additional performers will be announced at a later date.

JUNO newcomer Avril Lavigne is nominated in six categories, including Single of the Year, Album of the Year, New Artist of the Year, Songwriter of the Year, Pop Album of the Year and in a JUNO first, the inaugural JUNO Fan Choice Award (presented by Doritos). She has sold over 10 million copies of her debut CD, Let Go, powered by three consecutive #1 Top 40 singles. Her first North American tour kicks off in Toronto in April.

Three-time JUNO Award winners Our Lady Peace are nominated in four categories for Single of the Year, Album of the Year, Group of the Year and Rock Album of the Year. Producer Bob Rock and recording engineer Randy Staub also picked-up nominations for their work on "Somewhere Out There" (B. Rock and R. Staub) and "Innocent" (R. Staub) from the band's CD, Gravity.

Singer/songwriter/producer Remy Shand also earned four JUNO Award nominations, including Artist of the Year, Songwriter of the Year, R&B/Soul Recording of the Year and Jack Richardson Producer of the Year. His debut CD, The Way I Feel, made history by entering the Canadian SoundScan charts in the #1 position, a first for a Canadian artist's debut album. Produced, arranged, written and performed by Shand in his home studio, the record is certified Platinum in Canada and has sold over 700,000 copies worldwide.

Sam Roberts is nominated for Single of the Year and New Artist of the Year. He had a huge radio hit with the song, "Brother Down" from the mini-album, The Inhuman Condition (Maple Music Recordings) and has been recently signed to Universal Music.

Two-time JUNO Award-winning rap artists, Swollen Members, also captured two nominations, including Group of the Year and Rap Recording of the Year. Their latest album, Monsters in the Closet, features guest artist and long-time friend Nelly Furtado along with Def Jam recording artist Saukrates.

The 2003 JUNO Awards Telecast is produced by Toronto's Insight Productions in association with CTV. John Brunton is Executive Producer.
