"Try
and shut me up tour"
Featuring Avril
Lavignewith Gob and Simple
Plan
at
Gwinnett Center in Duluth Ga.
When
you have to drive 450 miles to cover a concert your expectations are high
and when the artist is multiple Juno
award winner Avril Lavigne your expectations increase ten fold. So
you can imagine how nervous I was when credentials were not at will call.
Minutes later a representative brought our credentials down and we were
off to photograph the show. The pleasantness of the staff just added to
the over all experience especially considering this was my first time
covering a show at the Gwinnett Center in Duluth, Ga.
Gob
opened the show and put on an excellent performance. This is a band your
going to hear a lot about in the near Future. Simple
Plan followed and to the surprise of the crowd bassist David Desrosiers
had to be assisted onto the stage by Avril Lavigne after injuring his
leg skateboarding earlier in the evening. When the crowd saw this happen
they just went crazy. Injured and chairbound he was still able to crank
on his bass. We've covered Simple Plan before and these Canadian rockers
just keep getting better with every show. This is a band that is on the
way to the top.
As
good as the opening bands were the highlight of the show was Avril Lavigne
who if you haven't heard of her, is an 18 year old Grammy nominated singer
from Ontario, Canada who sold several million copies of her debut CD LET'S
GO. Performing in front of a sold out crowd of of all ages, Avril started
the show off with an incredible rendition of sk8ter boi, 30 seconds into
the song I realized that this is a person who was born to entertain. With
her angelic voice when she sang, I'm with you, it made you feel like she
was singing directly to you and not to an audience of over 11,000 screaming
fans. In an era where so many artists go thru the motions of performing
it was a breath of fresh air to see Avril Lavrigne making constant eye
contact with the audience and having a blast with every song she sang.
Highlights of the show included an unforgetable version of Knocking on
Heaven's Door and Avril's first hit single Complicated. After listening
to her CD and seeing her perform in concert I believe that she has the
ability to become one of the greatest performers of the modern era of
music. Would I drive 450 miles again to see Avril Lavigne in concert?
Hell, I'd drive 900 miles to see her perform shes that good!
