Beck at Hard Rock Live - Orlando, FL.
May 31, 2003
I went into tonight's concert not knowing what to expect. I've heard of
Beck, but I only knew a few of his songs.
Well, after his performance tonight, I am going to make sure I know a
lot more about his music. This guy really rocks and he can crank on the
guitar too.
Beck started off the show with his hit single "Loser" and the
audience immediately started singing the words to the show and that set
the tone for the whole show.
From there he went into a really incredible version of "Novakane"
which showcased Beck's Harmonica and Guitar playing. He was so taken by
the audience's response to the song when he finished playing the Harmonica
he threw it into the crowd like other guys throw guitar pics to give a
fan a souvenir they wont want to give up; except his aim was off a little
and he almost hit me in the photo pit. Beck smiled at me and I couldn't
help but laugh.
A few songs later he broke into wonderful rendition of "Guess I'm
Goin' Fine." Another highlight of the show was "Where it's at"
which sounded outstanding live. The lighting and superb acoustics of Hard
Rock live made a great concert even better.
Beck ended the show with a titillating rendition of "Devil's Haircut."
He constantly smiled at the crowd and made eye contact with several members
of the audience and you could tell he is a person who loves performing
live. He impressed me with his stage presence and how he handled a microphone.
I wish young musicians would watch an artist like Beck, so they will learn
how to perform live.
As the show let out, I walked away thoroughly impressed with Beck, both
as a musician and a singer. I heard several members of the audience go,
"Beck, really puts on a great show" and I totally agreed with
them.
