Eve
6 Interview with Max Collins Max: We were recording the first record and we had an end of the day ritual of watching episodes of the X-files, that Tony had accumulated of the first season. Eve 6 was a character in one of the episodes. We just kinda of took to it. We still didn't have a name for the band at the time and needed one badly so we decided on Eve 6. OFG: How long has the band been together? Max: John and I started playing together at the end of our freshman year of high school. We met Tony shortly before we graduated. John and I close to ten years and with Tony it's been about 5 or 6 years. OFG: How did the band come up with the title 'It's All In Your Head'? Max: We had a meeting with Clive Davis the head of our record company. I went to go relieve myself in the bathroom. When I looked in the mirror I noticed I had sweat stains under my arms. A little social anxiety. A quick little panic, I guess. I told myself , "It's all in your head," and thought its a pretty appropriate title for this record. OFG: "Think Twice" is a pretty deep song. Does it come from a personal experience? Max: I've definitely been in shoes similar to the subject of that song. But no it's kinda a story that grew from the first couple of lines of the song. It just popped into my head and it become a complete idea. OFG: "Still Waiting Here" What's your take on that song? Max: It means different things to me at different times when we play it. I don't know if there is any specific message in that song. It's just kinda a release you know? OFG: How long did it take to record the album. Where did you come up with the cool album cover? Max: The album took about three months to record. We took our time getting the songs together and doing pre-production and finding the right producer. The album cover came at the final hour. We had an album cover we weren't really happy with so we had a friend Scratch Eve 6 into a table at a local fast food place back in Los Angeles. Then he took one of the ideas from the old album cover which was this headless character and scratched him into a piece of wood. It actually is his etchings, it's not computerized. OFG: What's your favorite song from the album? Max: It changes frequently. "Think Twice," is a blast to play. "At Least We're Dreaming" is a lot of fun to play live. But my favorite is always changing. OFG: How does the band decide what will be the first and last song played at tonight's show? Max: It kinda takes a few shows to work it out and refine it. We just kinda go off songs that we want to play. We definitely want to please the audience. But we want to chose a set for a show like this that's a half hour long. Do a blitz of songs that gets the people going even if people haven't necessarily heard them and get ourselves going as well. OFG: Have you decided what the first and last song of tonight's show will be? Max:
First song will be 'Amphetamines' from our "Horrorscope" album
and the last song will be 'Inside out.' Max: I'd love to perform with Tom Petty. Always been a huge fan of his. OFG: How many demos did the band have to send out before you were inked to a record deal? Max: We didn't do it that way. We played locally as much as we could. We were still in high school at the time. A scout, I guess you could call her from an independent company called Doctor Dream in Orange County saw us and through that connection we met a woman who become our manager and hooked us up with RCA. We didn't demo actually until -- oh wait, that's not true. We did a couple of demos but that was mainly to pass around to our friends. We never really sent it to labels. OFG: What's the tattoo on your neck what does that stand for? Max: It means courage. It was a drunken night in Pittsburgh. It's one of my regrets. OFG: If you weren't a musician what would you be? Max: I wouldn't mind tending bar. Somewhere small with a good jukebox. OFG: When the band's on the road what do you do to kill time? Max: We listen to music. Do some reading. Do some wandering. Just kinda mill about. OFG: Did you check out Orlando? MAX: I have in the past. Normally we just stay at the venue. Do soundcheck or whatever needs to be done. OFG: How does a fan of Eve 6 join your street team? Max: I think you contact our website. I'm not completely sure on how to do that. If you visit our website I'm sure there is information there. OFG: Is there anything you would like to say to the fans of Eve 6? Max: Thank you for being fans of Eve 6. We're definitely very grateful to be playing music and the fans allow that to happen. OFG: Max thank you very much for your time. Max:
Thank you. By
