I met Marc at his hotel and we did the Interview in the lobby there. He
was personable and friendly. He's one of the most down to earth entertainers
I have ever met. After seeing his show at House of Blues in Orlando, there
is no doubt in my mind that Marc's album will be one of the must buy releases
of 2004. If he's performing in a town near you I would consider seeing
Marc perform a great way to spend a night. Marc: The first major label album will be out in hopefully late April (2004). I have an album out now that was released last September called "Momentary Setback." OFG: Is there a single out for that record? Marc: There really isn't a single out. We've done very little radio and we've let the radio people decide what songs they want to play. If I had to pick a song it would probably be the first song "The Wanderer." OFG: How can someone buy "Momentary Setback"? Marc: they can get it at my website marcbroussard.com. We don't have much distribution. It's not in many stores. OFG: Is there a title for the new album yet? Marc: No, I have no Idea what it will be. I haven't recorded it yet. We're taking our time really try to develop it on a grassroots level. Then tour and tour some more. OFG: Do you have any songs written for it? Marc: I have a bunch of songs written for it. OFG: Do you think any of those songs will make it onto the new album? Marc: Yeah, I'm thinking probably 75 to 80 percent of the songs I've written since "Momentary Setback" will make it on the new record. Maybe some songs from "Momentary Setback" will make it on there. OFG: What are you songs usually about? Marc: Just life experiences. I write from my heart and try to be as honest as possible. Usually it's pretty in accordance with my life. OFG: How many demos did you have to send to Island Records before they signed you? Marc: None. I didn't send anything out. They came to me and said we dig what your doing and we'd like to work with you. We started negotiations around January of last year and I signed a few months later. OFG: Did you talk to your parents about it? Marc: Yeah my dad was pretty involved in the process. My dad is a Louisiana Hall of Fame guitar player and my whole family was pretty involved in the whole thing. OFG: Do you feel any pressure coming from such a famous musical family? Marc: No not really. I'm the first Broussard of my lineage that has stepped outside and made some real waves in regard to the national scene. So in that regard I'm sort of a pioneer as far as the Broussards are concerned. I don't feel any pressure. They're all behind me 100 percent. OFG: Did you dad give you any advice? Marc: All the time. I talk to him on a regular basis. Sometimes he'll come out and play some shows with us. It's a lot of fun when he does. (Editor's note: Marc's father is Ted Broussard. Louisiana Hall of Fame Guitar Player.) OFG: Will he play on your album? Marc: Definitely. OFG: What's it like touring with Willie Nelson? Marc: That was really interesting. It was his 70th birthday. It was in Louisiana about four hours from where I am from. It was crazy to share the stage with someone who has done so much. Willie has over 100 records alleged. It was a really amazing experience for me. OFG: What's your thoughts on playing in the Voodoo Music Festival in New Orleans? Marc: That's going to be a great time. My bass player and drummer are from New Orleans. I never played the Voodoo fest or been to it. But it's a great festival. I'm really excited about that show and I think we're going to have some special guests coming out. My dad will probably will be there for sure and hopefully a couple of other Louisiana legend guys. OFG: Do you have any memorable tour moments you'd like to share? Marc: I don't know if I can talk about this. It was Willie Nelson's 70th birthday. I brought him a king cake which is a fairly traditional Louisiana Mardi Gras cake. I brought the cake for him and knocked on his tour bus. His bus driver Gator came out and I told him, "Hey Gator I'm the opening act and I have this cake for Willie. I was wondering if you could give it to him." He tells me to hold on. Willie steps out of the bus and I'm like "oh shit it's Willie Nelson." So I give him the cake and tell him a little about it. I asked him if he wanted to burn one down. I got a little green. He goes "now is as good a time as any." So I walk into the bus. It's Willie, Ray Price, me, my tour manager and my guitar player. I pull out my joint and I passed it to Willie and by the time and it was passed back to me Willie had two big fat ones rolled and I was gone for like seven hours. It was crazy. It was an excellent experience. OFG: Do you have a Street team? Marc: A little bit of one. Kids show up and help us out anyway they can. You can download posters off my website or flyers and stuff. You can be as proactive as you want to be. That would help us out in a big way. OFG: Anything you would like to say to your fans? Marc: Check out the website marcbroussard.com If you hear about us come out to the shows and we'll have a good time for sure. OFG: Marc, thank you very much for your time. I wish you much success. Marc: Thank you very much Mike, I appreciate it. By Michael Montes - Orlando Florida Guide - All Rights Reserved.
