Interview with Twisted Method

Shortly after arriving at Ozzfest, I was engrossed by the second band to grace stage 2. This band’s name; Twisted Method. I had heard the name several times but, to my misfortune, never had the opportunity to see or even hear them. What a treat! Even though they have yet to hit the airwaves with their monstrous songs or heavily anticipated videos, this band is the second top selling band on the Ozzfest 2003 tour, second only to Marilyn Manson himself.

They hit the stage around 10 AM and assaulted the masses with one masterfully crafted song after another, and the mob responded accordingly. The mosh pit was formed while the rest of us hung back to enjoy the deafening melodies from these four incredible guys.

After their performance, the band came out to the FYE table to sign autographs and meet their fans. They even came out from behind the tables, mingling with us fans and signing even more of anything that was presented to them. It was at that time where I was able to catch up with bassist, Derrick Desantis and set up this interview with this awesome upcoming band.

Orlando Vacation Guide: So where are you guys from?

Twisted Method: We come from Cape Coma, I mean Cape Coral.

OFG: So I guess that is where the CD title comes from?

TM: Yeah. It’s where everyone comes to retire.

OFG: How long have you been together as a band?

TM: About 6 years.

OFG: Did you know each other growing up?

TM: Not really. A couple of us knew each other in school, Ben and Derek were neighbors, but we all came together to form the band.

OFG: How did you come up with the name "Twisted Method"?

TM: When we were 15, we were trying to come up with a cool sounding name and that’s what we came up with.

OFG: What do you like to do when not on the road?

TM: Take it easy, go to clubs, hang out with friends. Andy is accident-prone so nothing risky. He walks into walls (which is how he got that scar on the front of his head) and gets hurt a lot.

OFG: Who are some of your musical influences?

TM: Metallica, 50 cents, Snoop dog, Korn.

OFG: What do your families think about all of this?

TM: At first they were pretty freaked out because we weren’t going to college but they are ok with it now and they even come to the shows.

OFG: How is life on the road?

TM: Great! We love it! It’s a lot of fun.

OFG: Do you guys still live at home?

TM: Yeah, for the most part. It’s where our parents live.

OFG: Does religion play a factor with you? I noticed that you thanked God for your success. Was it the thing to do or do you really mean it?

TM: No, it wasn’t cause it was the thing to do, we believe in God and thank him for it all.

OFG: Well success you definitely have being one of the top selling bands on the Ozzfest 2003 tour. That must feel great!

TM: Yeah, especially since our music isn’t even been released to the radio stations. Things kind of got put on hold cause of the whole MCA / Geffen thing.

OFG: Do you guys ever hang out with Ozzy or any of the other bands?

TM: We saw Ozzy once, he’s like an enigma. Someone will say, "Hey, there’s Ozzy" then you turn around and he’s gone. We hang out with Motograter, they are a great bunch of guys, and Cradle of Filth. We occasionally will see Head or Monkey from Korn. They come over to catch some of the stage 2 bands. It’s tough for them because they get mobbed by the fans.

OFG: When will the first song be released to radio and what song will it be?

TM: "Reach" is going to be the first release.

OFG: Do you have any plans for a video?

TM: Yeah, definitely. We’re getting that into the works.

OFG: What about plans for a second CD?

TM: Well it took us 6 years to get this one out. We have a couple of songs we’ve been kicking around but we are just enjoying being on the road.

OFG: What does the future hold for Twisted Method? Ozzfest 2004?

TM: That would be great! If they ask us back yeah! We would definitely like to do Ozzfest next year. It’s a lot of fun.

OFG: What about relationships? Any wives or kids?

TM: No! Just enjoying what’s going on and having fun.

OFG: Finally, what would you like to say to all of your fans?

TM: "Just keep on rockin!" "If you like it, buy it and tell your friends"

Derrek "Tripp", Ben, Derek, and Andy, the four that make up Twisted Method are definitely one of the most human bands I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. Girls, they are sweet beyond compare, gorgeous and hard hitting musical wizards. What more could you ask for? I can’t wait to see what they have in store for us next!
