Teen Queen Hilary Duff Reigns Supreme on the America Online Service; AOL Music Helps Catapult Singer/Actress Up the Charts NEW
YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 17, 2003--
In just one week, Duff's exclusive concert was streamed over 1.4 million times on AOL, far and away the most of any Broadband Rocks event. Since the concert, Metamorphosis sold an additional 400,000 units, jumping from 16 to 4 on the Soundscan charts. The album, released on August 26, peaked at number 1 in September. These successes cap an innovative online marketing campaign in conjunction with the Metamorphosis album release that included: -- a First Listen debut of her single "So Yesterday," on AOL 24 hours before radio or any other outlet; -- Duff's appearance on the popular Sessions@AOL in-studio performance series, and -- a full-length album Listening Party, streamed on demand. Hilary Duff also staked her claim as a fan favorite on the KOL service, AOL's recently launched service exclusively for kids. She appeared on Radio KOL, the daily live online radio show that reaches thousands of kids each day, where she was interviewed by DJ Rick Adams and played the infamous "Moo/Baa" game. In addition, her single "So Yesterday" was consistently ranked as the #1 single in KOL's "Fresh Five," a daily feature that lets kids vote on their favorite songs. As a part of the AOL Inside program, fans could get other Duff-related content including a Hilary Duff SuperBuddy(TM) icon and other AOL Expressions, and diary entries. "The gang at AOL Music has been absolutely great," said Hilary Duff. "They were really important in my transition from acting to music, and were dedicated to finding new ways to keep me in front of my fans on AOL. I know that my success is due in no small part to their efforts." "From day one AOL has been a vital partner in helping us break Hilary Duff," said Ken Bunt, vice president new media of the Buena Vista Music Group. "With the help of AOL we have been able to connect with fans via live performances, personal diary entries, photos, buddy icons and more. All of this has allowed us to establish Hilary as a bona fide music star as evidence from the amazing response by AOL subscribers." "We were confident from the beginning that Hilary would strike a chord and win over our vast AOL member base" said Evan Harrison, General Manager of AOL Music. "After the tremendous reaction to our First Listen of 'So Yesterday,' and her intimate Sessions@AOL performance, we jumped on the opportunity to offer her live performance from a tiny club, we are thrilled with the sales success story." AOL
