GRAMMY Foundation's 2004 GRAMMY In The Schools Careers in Music Program Gets Underway SANTA
MONICA, California (BUSINESS WIRE) Top music industry professionals shed light on the realities of the music and recording industries to high school students around the country during the 2004 GRAMMY(R) In The Schools Careers in Music program, which kicks off on Tuesday, January 13, in Austin, Texas, and Atlanta, Georgia. The 14-city presentation continues the GRAMMY Foundation's 18-year tradition of introducing high school music students to the diverse career opportunities in the music industry. This year's lineup features forums to be held in Boston, Los Angeles, Memphis, Miami, New York, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Washington, D.C., and Honolulu, among other cities. Each Careers in Music program begins with a panel comprised of top recording and music industry professionals interacting with students in a dynamic talk-show format. Following the panel discussion, students attend one of many workshops on specific topics ranging from songwriting to engineering and production to instrumental technique to marketing and public relations to music video production and music-oriented Internet careers. "GRAMMY In The Schools provides high school students the chance to get up close and personal with music industry professionals, and exposes them to the wide spectrum of available career opportunities in music," said Recording Academy(R) and GRAMMY Foundation President Neil Portnow. "Our program is straightforward and is designed to give future music industry personnel the insight and perspective they need to achieve their career and creative goals. Nothing hits home more than hearing firsthand from those who have realized their professional dreams." The 2004 GRAMMY In The Schools program will visit the following cities: January

The GRAMMY Foundation was established in 1989 to cultivate the understanding, appreciation and advancement of the contribution of recorded music on American culture -- from the artistic and technical legends of the past to the still unimagined musical breakthroughs of the future generations of music professionals. The Foundation accomplishes this mission through programs and activities that engage the music industry and cultural community as well as the general public. The Foundation works in partnership year-round with the Recording Academy to bring national attention to important issues such as the value and impact of music and arts education and the urgency of preserving our rich cultural heritage.
