NEW YORK, Nov. 19, 2003 (PRNewswire) -- Jay-Z's final solo album, The Black Album (Roc-A-Fella Records), has debuted at the #1 position in the first week of its release. The disc, which was released 2 weeks earlier than planned because of illegal piracy, has moved over 463,000 in 3 days. The sales are a testament to Jay-Z's legacy and ability to still top the charts after ten years. Fans put The Black Album at #1, beating out new releases by 50 Cent's G-Unit and Tupac. The Black Album features production by Eminem, Kanye West, The Neptunes, Rick Rubin and Just Blaze, among others. The lead single, "Change Clothes," is currently the fastest growing single on Billboard's hip/R&B chart and Rhythmic Charts. The release is being supported by the release of a black version of Jay's signature S. Carter shoe through Reebok, and an all star charity concert on November 25th at Madison Square Garden, which will benefit The Hip Hop Summit Action Network and The Shawn Carter Scholarship Foundation. The Hip Hop Summit Action Network can be reached at WWW.HSAN.ORG. "THE BLACK ALBUM" "He has kept listeners engaged all these years not with his humility but with a relaxed Brooklyn baritone that makes him sound a bit like a ghetto Sinatra (callous but with enviable style)." Time Magazine "Farewell albums are usually shticky stuff, but The Black Album is the real deal: a good-bye where the artist leaves the stage, reputation intact." New York Magazine "If The Black Album is indeed Jay-Z's last, he's not only leaving at the top of his game, but at a time when he is getting even better ... But it's Jigga's trademark lyrical dexterity and diversified deliveries that put him on a level all his own ... Jay-Z leaves a lasting impression as he fades to black." USA Today "Throughout the new album's 14 cuts, Jay-Z showcases his tremendous lyrical skill, highlighted by his uncanny ability to string together clever couplets with double meanings... These cuts also highlight Jay-Z's effortless delivery patterns, which can sound as casual as conversation or as complex as astrophysics." Los Angeles Times "'Black'
features the ruthlessly clear lyrics authoritative flow and propulsive
music of the form's finest" New York Daily News.
