Epic Records/Sony Music Soundtrax Announce the Release of the Soundtrack to Mona Lisa Smile, a Revolution Studio and Columbia Pictures Release

November 24, 2003

Elton John and Bernie Taupin create an original song 'The Heart of Every Girl'

Celine Dion, Elton John, Macy Gray, Tori Amos, Mandy Moore and Chris Isaak Among the Artists on the Soundtrack

NEW YORK, Nov. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Epic Records, a division of Sony Music, has released an all-star soundtrack, including new versions of popular standards. In addition, the soundtrack features an original song "The Heart of Every Girl" by Academy Award winner and Golden Globe Award winner Elton John and Bernie Taupin. The album was released on Friday, just three weeks before the film Mona Lisa Smile starring Julia Roberts, Kirsten Dunst, Julia Stiles and Maggie Gyllenhaal. The Epic Records/Sony Music Soundtrax release was produced by Grammy Award winner Trevor Horn.

Performing newly recorded versions of classic songs for the Mona Lisa Smile Soundtrack are Celine Dion ("Bewitched"), Macy Gray ("Santa Baby"), Chris Isaak ("Besame Mucho"), Mandy Moore ("Secret Love"), Kelly Rowland ("I'm Beginning To See The Light"), Alison Krauss ("What'll I Do"), and Lisa Stansfield ("I've Got the World on a String"). In addition, Tori Amos, who also has a featured role in the film, has recorded two tracks on the album ("Murder, He Says" and "You Belong To Me").

Academy Award winner and Golden Globe Award winner Elton John has recorded an original song entitled "The Heart of Every Girl," which was co-written with long time collaborator Bernie Taupin.

"It is rare for a movie soundtrack to bring together such an incredible group of performers that spans genres and generations and give them the opportunity to record their versions of some of the great songs of popular music," said Lia Vollack, President of Worldwide Music, Sony Pictures Entertainment. "This is one of those special soundtracks that is a musical event in itself."

Revolution Studios' Mona Lisa Smile, which will be released nationwide on December 19 and stars Academy Award winner Julia Roberts, is an uplifting and poignant drama about one woman's desire to enrich the lives of her students. Mona Lisa Smile is set in the early 1950's at Wellesley College. The film will be distributed by Columbia Pictures.
