TRUTH HURTS GETTING “READY NOW”

TO DROP HER LATEST ALBUM JUNE 1 ON RAPHAEL SAADIQ’S POOKIE ENTERTAINMENT;TITLE TRACK MAKING ITS PRESENCE FELT ON URBAN RADIO NATIONWIDE; ALBUM SET TO SHIP 100,000 COPIES;

RAVE REVIEWS START TO POUR IN

May 12, 2004 -- With huge promotional tie-ins with Target and Best Buy already on board, the stars are lining up and shining bright on the forthcoming album by St. Louis R&B singer/songwriter TRUTH HURTS.

June 1 marks the release of her sophomore album, READY NOW, her first on Grammy® Award winner / singer / songwriter / producer / musician Raphael Saadiq’s Pookie Entertainment label (distributed by the Navarre Corporation). It’s the follow-up to 2002’s TRUTHFULLY SPEAKING, which debuted at #5 on Billboard’s “Top 200 Albums” chart and #4 on Billboard’s “Top R&B Albums” chart, and spawned the #1 smash hit “Addictive.”

The excitement has already started with immediate and overwhelming success at a large number of Urban radio stations nationwide who are currently spinning the title track in heavy rotation.

Intense airplay on TV outlets such as BET, MTV2 and VH1 Soul isn’t too far behind. A video for “Ready Now” was recently shot in Los Angeles with choreographer Fatima Robinson (Black Eyed Peas’ “Hey Mama”) at the director’s helm.

On the critical front, the rave reviews have already started pouring in. As Vibe raved in a 3-1/2 out of 4 star review: “…Truth sounds settled and even more contagious on this sophomore effort. Exec-Produced by Raphael Saadiq and backed by his stellar musicianship, Truth’s powerful vocals swerve through the appropriately titled READY NOW with the passion of a hungry newcomer and the command of a seasoned pro. Truth never sounded so sexy or soulful.”

While Upscale proclaimed: “Bringing much needed honesty into contemporary soul music, Truth (minus the Hurts) is back with READY NOW, an impressive follow-up to her standout debut…a funk-drenched album, propelled by the fusion of (Raphael Saadiq’s) eclectic, 'gospeldelic' sound and the alluring sassiness that embodies Truth…READY NOW is a testament to the true beauty of sincerity."

Fans will have two chances to hear READY NOW in its entirety before the June 1 release date by tuning in to XM Satellite Radio or logging onto America Online. XM’s “The City XM 67” channel will premiere the album on May 27 at 9pm ET/6pm PT, May 29 at 10am ET/7am PT and May 31at 8am ET/5am PT. While AOL Music will feature the audio and video for “Ready Now,” as well as a full album listening party—in streaming form--which will all be posted starting May 21.

In touring news, TRUTH has started a three week promotional trek which will have her visiting radio stations, nightclubs and retail outlets all over the country. She’ll be making stops in Detroit, Chicago, Augusta, Columbia, Charleston and Charlotte. More cities are currently being added to her already hectic schedule.

A national performance tour is currently in the works which will have her criss-crossing the U.S. throughout the summer and well into the fall. Dates will be announced in the coming weeks.
