25, 2003 You take a day of Sun, fun and great music and what do you have? 95.7 Starfest is what you have. Nearly 20,000 fans of all ages brought lawn chairs and blankets and enjoyed a day of music and fun. 95 Star of Tampa put on a first class event. If fans were overheated they were misting tents to cool them down. If fans got thirsty or hungry there were ample tents set up to buy food and drinks. This concert brought out all age groups and I saw many parents enjoying the concert with their children. But the real story was the music. One-first rate band after another treated fans to a day they won't soon forget and if this wasn't enough many of the bands signed autographs for fans. This enabled fans to get up close and personal with their favorite musician and many fans had their photos taken with them. Von Ray started the day off around noon and this Central Florida bands set was nothing sort of outstanding. One of the highlights of their set was their single "I'll Show You" which sounded just wonderful live. This is one band you are going to be hearing an awful lot about in the upcoming months. If you have a chance to see them live don't miss it. SouthFM played one hell of a set and when you consider they had just arrived when they went on stage this made their set all the better. Their flight had been delayed at the airport. The band didn't let this deter them and by their second song their performance had fans shaking their heads and singing the words to their songs. One of the best songs in their set was "Dear Claudia" which sounded incredible live. Dave Matthews Cover Band hit the stage and started their set off with the old Police classic "King of Pain" and it sounded better than the original and I am a HUGE fan of The Police. When I closed my eyes I thought I was listening to the Police. They went into Dave Matthew covers after that and their performance was one of the best of the day. How this band is not signed to a record deal is a mystery to me. They are very talented. If you have a chance to see them in concert don't turn it down. Lifehouse played one of the more memorable sets of the day. They played all their hits and a few new ones and fans seemed to really get into their show. I saw several people dancing and many fans tried to get as close as possible. People who were waiting in line to buy food rushed back so they would not miss any of their set. Sister Hazel's performance was one I don't think I will ever forget. They impressed me with their stage presence and they are one of the better bands I have seen perform live. Sister Hazel is a band that was born to play live and a band you will want to see over and over again in concert. Don't take my word for it go see them in concert and then email me and tell me how great they were. As great as all the bands were the highlight of the show was headliner Jewel who closed out the concert with a set that lasted over an hour. Jewel played many of her old songs and one of the highlights was when she played her new song "Intuition." Jewel made eye contact with as many fans as possible and was constantly smiling and you could tell she was having a blast up stage. Her voice sounded just as succulent as it does on her records and she's a much better guitar player than she is given credit for. All in all it was a great way to close out one of the better live festivals I have been to this year. I'd
like to personally thank 95 Star for making this such a fun event to cover.
They went all out to put on a first rate show. I can't wait for next year's
show. If your looking for a great way to celebrate the Memorial Day weekend
95.7 Starfest is one of the best ways you can. By
