The
first car I noticed (and one of my personal favorites) was a 1968 Plymouth
Roadrunner owned by Rex Gruver of Gainesville. After a few minutes of
talking, Rex agreed to take me for a ride and let me take some photos
of his car. His car was in such mint condition he probably could have
charged people $5.00 dollars a ride and made several hundred dollars.
Then
I noticed a 1989 Avanti convertible that needless to say if you drove
down a beach girls would stop you and ask you for a ride. The owner, Jim
Butler, was gracious enough to take me for a spin and allow me to take
a few photographs of this beautiful car.
Then next car that caught my eye was a 1974 Triumph TR-6 owned by Jose Vega. He was more than happy to take me for a cruise. This classic one of the more underrated automobiles from the 1970's looked as good today as it did almost 30 years ago.
Enjoying
the gorgeous weather I walked around looking at one eye catching car after
another. I talked with several owners all who were very enthusiastic about
the show and they answered any questions I had about their car. Many were
waxing their cars to keep them looking pristine. I came across the Motorcycle
section of the show. There were several bikes that caught my eye. One
of my favorites was the Custom Cycle owned by Grant Guthrie.
One of the judges introduced me to Gene Abbott and I was able to get photos of his rear engine Dragster. When Gene started up his Dragster and brought it out back so I could photograph it every head at the show stopped and looked at the car. This was one of the biggest thrills of the day for me. I'm a big drag racing fan. Maybe Gene will be nice enough to let me take it for a ride someday. What a thrill that would be. Three girls from the Gainesville Hooters presented trophies and plaques to the award winners. A DJ from Kiss 105 hosted the Bikini contest which only had three contestents. Kudos go to out to the girls who entered the contest. Even though there were only three contestents this did not deter from the crowd's enthusism for the event, hopefully next year, Gainesville college girls will show up and show off how good a college town Gainesville really is. Throughout
the day I walked past a collection of prize-winning Automobiles, Pickup
Trucks and Motorcyles. It was an Impressive show to say the least. I started
to realized how lucky we are to live in a state that has so many wonderful
automobiles. Normally it could take weeks to months to see this many eye
catching beauties. Thanks to the 1st annual Gainesville Show, Shine and
Sound people in attendance were able to see all this in one day. And the
proceeds went to charity too. Now, that is a great way to spend a day.
