Apollo 13 IMAX(R) Premiere at Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex Wed., Nov. 13 - Gala Evening With Special Guests Jim Lovell and Gene Kranz Thur., Nov. 14 - Press Conference With Apollo 13 Actor Tom Hanks, Director Ron Howard and Commander Jim Lovell

"Apollo 13: The IMAX(R) Experience" will premiere at Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex on Florida's Space Coast Wednesday, November 13 at 6:00 p.m., during a gala event with special guests Apollo 13 Commander Jim Lovell and Flight Director Gene Kranz. Guests at the event will enjoy a screening of the dramatic, true story of Apollo 13 and a buffet dinner with the commander of the heroic mission and the famed flight director who helped bring the crew home safely. Lovell and Kranz will share their unique experiences during the nail-biting mission, and how they worked together -- Lovell from the damaged spacecraft 205,000 miles away, and Kranz at Mission Control in Houston -- to bring the astronauts back to Earth safely. Tickets for the event went on sale to the general public in October, and have nearly sold out.

Premiere events will continue Thursday, November 14 at 5:00 p.m., when Apollo 13 Actor Tom Hanks, Director Ron Howard and Commander Jim Lovell, guests of the Astronaut Scholarship Foundation, will participate in a press conference to discuss the new film. The event will be moderated by former aerospace writer/reporter Howard Benedict.

"Apollo 13: The IMAX(R) Experience" is the newest attraction at Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex, airing daily at 3:30 p.m. and included in regular admission to the complex. The Visitor Complex is currently the only IMAX(R) theater in Florida showing the film, which debuted nationwide in September.

"Apollo 13" is the first-ever 35mm live action film to be digitally
re-mastered into IMAX(R)'s 15/70 format, which is 10 times larger than a conventional 35mm film and three times larger than a standard 70mm film.

Tom Hanks, Bill Paxton and Kevin Bacon star as Apollo astronauts James Lovell, Fred Haise and Jack Swigert, who found themselves in a life-or-death race back to Earth in April 1970 after an oxygen tank
ruptured on their Service Module three days into their lunar mission.

Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex is open from 9 a.m. to approximately dusk every day except December 25 and certain launch days. Admission includes access to all attractions and exhibits, including the KSC Tour of restricted areas; the live Astronaut Encounter program; the 3-D IMAX(R) film, "Space Station"; the live-action show "Mad Mission to Mars 2025" and guided tours of the newly redeveloped Rocket Garden.
